Pump troubleshooting

My pump keeps dropping off Wi-Fi

Your pump keeps pumping whether or not it’s online, so a Wi-Fi dropout never affects your water. It just means the app can’t reach the pump for a while. Nine times out of ten it’s the signal getting to the pump, not the pump itself.

What "offline" actually means

The pump talks to the Grewa app over your home Wi-Fi. If the app shows it offline, or the live pressure and power stop updating, the pump has lost its connection to the router. The pump carries on running normally the whole time; only the monitoring pauses.

The usual causes

  • Weak Wi-Fi where the pump is installed. A shed, a pump housing, or outside is often right at the edge of the signal.
  • The router was restarted, or the Wi-Fi name or password was changed.
  • A temporary internet or power blip at the house.
  • The pump is a fair distance from the router through a few walls, where the longer-reaching 2.4GHz band matters.

What to check

  • Confirm your internet is up on your phone at the house.
  • Check the signal right where the pump is. If your phone barely holds Wi-Fi standing next to the pump, the pump will struggle too.
  • If you recently changed your Wi-Fi name or password, or switched internet providers, the pump needs to be reconnected to the new details in the app, the same way it was first set up.
  • Give it time. After a router restart or an outage it can take a few minutes to reconnect on its own.

Improving a weak signal

  • Move the router closer, or add a Wi-Fi extender or mesh point near the pump.
  • A pump in a metal shed or below ground is a classic weak spot; even a small change in position or antenna line-of-sight can help.
  • Keep it on the 2.4GHz band where you can, it travels further through walls than 5GHz.

It’s built to cope with this

Grewa expects the odd dropout, which is why the pump never depends on the connection to do its job. When it reconnects it catches the app back up, and the app always tells you if the numbers are live or the last known reading. If it stays offline for a long stretch and you have ruled out the Wi-Fi, that’s worth reporting so we can take a look.

Common questions

Does my pump stop working if the Wi-Fi drops?

No. The pump runs completely independently of the app and your internet. A dropout only pauses the monitoring; your water is unaffected.

I changed my internet or router. What do I do?

Reconnect the pump to the new Wi-Fi details through the app, the same way it was set up originally. The old details stop working once the network changes.
